Wakefield Wines was founded by Bill Taylor Senior and his sons, Bill and John in 1969. Originally wine merchants from Sydney, all three were inspired to create a range of well-crafted wines of their own. A suitable 178 hectare site was eventually located by the Wakefield River in the Clare Valley. The soil, a combination of red brown loam over limestone (now called terra rossa) would prove conducive to crafting wines of the highest quality while the contrast of warm days and cool nights in the Clare would be equally beneficial to the grapes. The contemporary Promised Land range of wines is crafted from quality fruit sourced from both the family's Clare Valley estate as well as other premium South Australian regions, including Coonawarra, Padthaway and the Barossa. Like all the wines in the range this blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon is designed to be fruit-driven and approachable.
A deep maroon in colour with purple hints. On the nose, enticing aromas of ripe plum, cassis and a hint of cedar. On the palate, well balanced and medium bodied with lively notes of dark berries, cassis, and sweet spices. A soft and supple wine with smooth tannins from the oak maturation, this would pair well with duck in plum sauce, braised brisket served with roasted vegetables or roasted squah salad with miso and harissa.
